Cell Biology Steroid Hormone Receptors

Steroid hormone receptors (SHR’s) are proteins that have binding sites for specific steroid molecules. Generally intracellular they are responsible for signalling steroid hormones implicated in gene expression.

SHR’s can be activated by binding of ligands. Agonistic or antagonistic ligands lead to different allosteric changes within the SHR enabling them to initiate positive or negative effects on gene expressions.

Well know SHR’s are members of the nuclear receptor family which includes 48 receptors for gonadal and adrenal steroids, non-steroidal ligands e.g. thyroid, vitamin D and fatty acids.

Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) N-Terminal Antibody - Mouse Anti-Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) N-Terminal
ACTH occurs in cells of the anterior pituitary and in neurons in brain. It regulates the corticosteroid production in the adrenal cortex. Beta endorphin and Met enkephalin are endogenous opiates. MSH (melanocyte stimulating hormone) increases the pigmentation of skin by increasing melanin production in melanocytes

Progesterone Receptor Antibody- Phospho (Ser162) - Mouse Anti- Progesterone Receptor - Phospho (Ser162)
Progesterone plays a central role in the reproductive events associated with the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy Progesterone receptor a member of the steroid receptor superfamily mediates the physiologic effects of progesterone The PGR gene uses separate promoters and translational start sites to produce 2 isoforms PRA and PRB which are identical except for an additional 165 amino acids present only in the N terminus of PRB Although PRA and PRB share several structural domains they are distinct transcription factors that mediate their own response genes and physiologic effects with little overlap
