Development Hormones Receptors

Hormones and the receptor sites thereof can be implicated in the growth of certain cancers particularly those associated which are sex related e.g. Breast, Prostate, Ovary and Testes. A hormones basic role is promotion of growth and cell proliferation and hormones are therefore key instigators of gene expression in certain cancer cells.

Manipulating hormone pathways, when present, can result in cancers ceasing to grow and even cell death.

The presence or absence of hormone receptors is an important standardised test in focusing therapeutic diagnosis and treatment.
